I must admit to being a bit dismayed that my, otherwise so astute, colleagues on the TMS blog seem to have missed my post in response to C. C.'s query. It was posted at 5:52pm local time.

Okay...BarryG has something we should have seen? I was gone a good part of the day...is it something you deleted and I didn't get to see? Is it something I would want to see...does it require another glass of wine?...a fine tradition it is to have a glass of wine at throwing out time...most of our family practices it!

The magazine is not a magazine, it is an edition of the New York Post. I found the image while searching for one that effectively conveyed the spirit of 'dismay'.
As for 'Descartes', C.C. asked everyone to offer their best effort for a better clue for 13D on today's LAT puzzle. Good luck on that one!
